Man Ray met Marcel Duchamp (1887–1968) in Ridgfield, New Jersey, in 1915. An immediate artistic connection blossomed, giving rise to an unbreakable friendship that would last a lifetime. One of the most radical artists of his century, Marcel Duchamp created works, including his readymades, that have influenced generations of artists. A French painter, sculptor, and writer, he became an American citizen in 1955.
